Course Description

Step outside and onto the page in this two-week creative writing adventure that explores the powerful connection between poetry and the natural world. Wild Words invites students to wander through forests of verse—from the musings of the Transcendentalists to the fresh voices of contemporary poets—discovering how nature has inspired writers across time, cultures, and identities.

Through daily readings, class discussions, and exploratory writing exercises, students will keep a personal Nature Poetry Journal, responding to prompts that blend observation, imagination, and craft. Whether you're sketching the shape of a summer storm in metaphor or capturing the quiet hush of dawn in haiku, this journal will be your creative lab—casual, experimental, and full of possibilities.

Along the way, you'll learn to identify and use literary devices like imagery, rhythm, symbolism, and structure. You'll also choose one of your original poems to revise and refine into a polished final draft, accompanied by a short reflection on your writing process and poetic techniques.

We’ll end our journey with a Poetry Share, where students can present their work in a warm and supportive space. Open to all experience levels, this course is perfect for young writers who want to deepen their appreciation of poetry, grow their creative voice, and celebrate the beauty of the world around them—one poem at a time.

Who Should Take This Course

Any rising 7th grade through 9th grade student who wants to strengthen their reading and writing skills in preparation for the academic year.

Course Description

This course is designed to reinforce 6th and 7th grade Common Core topics regarding number sense, expressions, and  equations, while also introducing students to some new material which will be taught in the early part of both their 7th and 8th grade math courses. 

Who Should Take This Course

Any rising 7th and 8th grade student who would like to strengthen their foundational math skills.

Course Description

The Introduction to Algebra 1 summer course will cover a sampling of topics from the first half of the Algebra 1 course, including algebraic expressions and operations, techniques for solving equations, the Distributive Property and its applications, and polynomial operations. 

Who Should Take This Course

Any rising 8th or 9th grader with plans to take Algebra 1 in the fall.

Course Description

The Introduction to Geometry summer course will cover a sampling of topics from the first half of the Geometry course, including segments and angles, an introduction to two-column proofs, parallel lines, and triangles. Students will develop notational fluency and begin to learn some of the important vocabulary and theorems that will be key to success in Geometry. Algebra review will be incorporated throughout the course. 

Who Should Take This Course

Any rising 9th or 10th grader with plans to take Geometry in the fall.

Course Description

This course is a hybrid course consisting of individual work during June-July facilitated by an NDA instructor, followed by three weeks of in-person classes taught by an NDA instructor. The course is a for-credit course intended for students who wish to accelerate their program and complete their Algebra 1 requirement during the summer or for students who need a refresher of Algebra 1 content. Enrollment is generally by invitation. The course includes homework, tests, and a final exam.  Students who successfully complete this course can earn a placement into Geometry.

Who Should Take This Course

Any rising 9th grader who has been placed into Advanced Honors Algebra 1 but wishes to complete the Algebra 1 requirement during the summer and earn a placement into Geometry. In certain circumstances, the course can also be taken by students who need a refresher in Algebra 1 content before moving onto Geometry or Algebra 2. Families who are interested in this course should reach out directly to the Mathematics Department Chairperson at cbianchi@ndahingham.com.            

Course Description

The goal of this two-week course is to introduce students to the major chemistry topics that will be covered in the first semester. Topics include physical and chemical changes, significant figures, atomic structure, electron orbitals, and the periodic table. We will also practice many of the math skills that will be needed throughout the academic year. Students will perform activities that will enhance their learning and prepare them for success!

Who Should Take This Course

Any rising 10th grade student planning to take Chemistry in the fall.

Clinic Description

Join the NDA Basketball Athletes for an elite summer clinic experience! Designed for girls entering grades 4 - 8, our clinic blends high-level skill development with a fun, high-energy environment. Learn the fundamentals, sharpen your basketball IQ, and see firsthand what it takes to compete at a championship level. Come be a part of the Cougar tradition! All athletes will receive a t-shirt, enjoy a daily popsicle break, and are invited to a pizza party at the conclusion of the session!

McDavitt Sports is hosting a field hockey clinic at Notre Dame Academy run by Tina McDavitt, Head Field Hockey Coach at Tufts University. This clinic is open to rising grades 9 - 12 athletes. For NDA Hingham students and surrounding towns.

This June, SSBT will offer introductory ballet classes designed for students interested in exploring dance in a welcoming, supportive environment. These classes are a wonderful opportunity for girls to build confidence, creativity, and discipline while trying something new. No previous dance experience is required.
