May 30, 2019 Dear Alumnae,
The month of May is such a special time at NDA. We celebrate our many commencement traditions like our medallion ceremony at Baccalaureate and the throwing of the roses at graduation. This year, we were honored to have Erin McDonough '82 Senior Vice President, Strategic Communication and Chief Communication Officer at Brigham and Women's Hospital address our graduates. She told the girls "your ability to express yourself—to articulate your emotions, desires, ideas and opinions—is one of the keys to happiness and success."
We also welcomed over 80 grandparents and special friends to campus for Grandparents Day this week--they witnessed the NDA student experience first-hand attending classes and eating a special lunch together.
Lastly, please consider participating in our month of May challenge by donating to the The Fund for NDA.
Sincerely, Annemarie Lynch Kenneally '80 P'13 '15
Commencement 2019
The Class of 2019 bid farewell to NDA on Friday, May 17 with a beautiful commencement ceremony in the auditorium.
Student speaker Caroline Coates '19 compared the graduating class to a chorus. She stated, "Everyone brings to the chorus a different voice, but they combine to create a single sound."
The power of the NDA community and the theme of self-expression were echoed by commencement speaker, Erin McDonough '82. McDonough, Senior Vice President, Strategic Communication and Chief Communication Officer at Brigham and Women's Hospital, told the girls that she values facing problems by speaking up, "your ability to express yourself—to articulate your emotions, desires, ideas and opinions—is one of the keys to happiness and success. Difficult conversations are part of life and relationships . . . but they should always be handled thoughtfully, with kindness and compassion." McDonough and Coates worked in tandem to impart the idea that resiliency ultimately comes from passion, community and authenticity.
