Cuvilly: Middle School

Middle school is a tremendous time of change and growth in young women. Our program – named after the birthplace of St. Julie Billiart – celebrates this important stage of development.

Our middle school community offers the reassurance that comes from the sense of belonging. Our girls feel at home, giving them the freedom to begin the process of self-discovery. We guide them along a path that inspires confidence, builds friendships, emphasizes service to others, and sparks a love of lifelong learning.

Our Cuvilly students are encouraged to participate to the fullest in classes, clubs, community service, activities, and teams. All which builds a community that inspires hearts, minds, and voices.

Cuvilly Program Features

Talented faculty

Cuvilly faculty are specialists in educating seventh and eighth graders. Our teachers are passionate and committed to their students and subject areas.

Course of study

Students study six core subjects: English, Math, Science, Social Studies, Theology, and World Languages. Classes are also offered in the Visual and Performing Arts, Technology, and Health and Wellness.

Experiential approach to science

Courses cover life science, earth science, and physical science with a strong emphasis on experiential learning and inquiry-based experiments.

Guidance seminar

Students develop study and time management skills needed for high school and college. The curriculum also focuses on self-awareness (the idea of understanding and managing emotions and behaviors), social awareness (thinking about others' perspectives), and responsible decision making.

Capstone Projects

Grade 7 Stewardship Project

The seven Hallmarks of the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur have a heavy focus on education and service on behalf of others locally and globally. Students joining our NDA community in 7th grade provide us with an excellent opportunity to instill these Hallmarks and the values that will create strong leaders in service. The goal of this project is to show students that service matters and makes a difference. Students will work cross-curricular to receive a holistic understanding of their own project, and develop important skills in research, presentation, reflection, action, leadership, and teamwork.

Grade 8 Capstone Project

The Capstone project is a year-long interdisciplinary project that serves as a culminating experience for middle school and focuses on the skills necessary for success in high school and beyond. This project is designed to encourage students to think creatively and critically, develop skills in research and public speaking, work collaboratively with a partner and learn time management and organization. Supported by the Grade 8 curriculum and the mission of the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur along with the Hallmarks, students will learn the importance of committing oneself to community service, embracing diversity, and creating community.
