Guidance & College Counseling
The Notre Dame Academy Guidance and College Counseling Staff supports each student in her personal, academic, and social growth. Our work focuses on three areas:
Social & Emotional Support
Students develop a relationship with their guidance counselor through individual meetings scheduled by the counselor throughout the year. With an open-door policy, students are welcome to stop in and speak with their counselor for support at any time.
Counselors ensure that each student is working to her academic potential. Annually, guidance is given in choosing the appropriate level of rigor to create the strongest schedule. Additionally, students are provided support when facing academic challenges throughout the year.
Starting in the sophomore year, counselors devote considerable time and research to the process of advising students and families in the college selection process. During the fall of junior year, the Office of Guidance and College Counseling holds a college planning evening for parents which provides an overview of the college admissions process. During the spring of junior year, counselors meet with each student and her family for an individual college consultation. Senior year provides a second parent evening in September, followed by individual meetings with students to facilitate the application process. Each summer, NDA hosts a College Admissions Boot Camp for rising seniors to begin the application and college essay process.
